CONOCE A MONICA

Meet Monica

Monica Guzmán, a Native Austinite, graduated from St. Edward’s University with a BA in Political Science and from Our Lady of the Lake with an MA in Human Sciences. She has a proven track record of working with our communities. In 2010, she marched for workers’ rights and attended rallies for undocumented immigrants.

In 2017, as part of the City’s Equity Action Team, she helped create the Equity Assessment Tool. As a dedicated community advocate with deep roots in our beloved city, Monica Guzmán, an organizer and policy director, works with and supports underserved communities addressing issues in District 4 and adjacent communities in Austin’s Eastern Crescent. She leads and coordinates the GAVA (GO! Austin/¡VAMOS! Austin) Policy Team and stewards GAVA’s policy platform, informed by GAVA’s work with residents.

Guzmán understands the importance of collaboration to address the unique challenges our communities face and envisions an Austin that prioritizes community well-being, equitable access to resources, and sustainable development. Her platform focuses on issues such as social justice reform, climate resilience/disaster preparedness, and neighborhood stability.

Monica was also the chair of the Restore Rundberg Revitalization team, and served on the Reimagining Public Safety Task Force, Caritas of Austin Board of Directors, and enjoys researching her family history.
